This is just going to be some of my thoughts and ramblings in the lead up to Christmas ; my own feeble attempt at keeping the main thing the main thing. You are welcome to join me if you would like to.
The fact that all the firsts coincide today has got me thinking.
Pondering that every day is a first really - tomorrow will be the first Monday in December and the only Monday 2nd Dec 2013. Today I shall do lots of things for the first time - I shall watch Ben light an advent candle for the first time , the candle in the advent wreath which I made for the first time this year. We shall have lunch in a brand new church for the first time and speak to people we have never met before .
The Bible tells us that every day we have an opportunity to experience God's goodness and mercy as though for the very first time
It is because of the Lord’s mercy and loving-kindness that we are not consumed, because His [tender] compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great and abundant is Your stability and faithfulness. ( Lamentations 3 22-23 Amp)
His tender compassions.
I like that alot. God isnt kind to us because its His job. He is kind , gracious, merciful, loving because of His tenderness. He is Love. He adores us. Every day when we wake up He is right there looking for ways to express His great love towards us. So today I can know His love for me in a brand new - never-before-experienced- first-hand-first-time way
Advent is about remembering the first time God decided to show us just how committed, involved, caring, kind and wonderful He is. The first time He came in person - as an embryo in the womb of a peasant girl. In total identification with all that we are from our very beginnings. It is also about looking forward with anticipation to the second time He comes.
Lord, today I thank you for your goodness and kindness which is new and fresh just for today. You know how Im going to feel today, who I shall meet, what will happen and how I will respond. If I can just fill myself up with your love today then I shall surely have everything I need . Today I open myself to Your spirit, receive all that you have for me and thank you for it. In the run up to Christmas help me not to lose sight of your mercies , new every morning. Amen.
